Aquatic Invasive Species Monitoring
Each summer, Watershed Stewardship Groups around Saskatchewan monitor numerous lakes for invasive Zebra and Quagga mussels. The MJRWS have monitored the Watson Reservoir for many years, but this year we are also monitoring Plaxton’s Lake in Moose Jaw.

Purple Loosestrife Control
We recently discovered a patch of purple loosestrife located in the City of Moose Jaw. Purple loosestrife is an incredibly invasive plant that loves water, and wetlands. Volunteers came out on August 5th to help manually pull the plants from the river bed.

Located just south of Moose Jaw, we are working with a massive amount of land and over one hundred land owners, government agencies (both local, provincial, and federal) to address concerns with agricultural drainage, water quality, and flow controls in the project area.

Yellow Flag Iris Control
Thanks to the help of the Wakamow Valley Authority, Moose Jaw River and Adventure Tours, and our locals in our watershed. We were able to identify, map, monitor and then control the spread of a new (to Saskatchewan) invasive species, Yellow-Flag Iris.

Leafy Spurge Beetle Collection Day
The MJRWS partnered with three watersheds on July 9th, and together we were able to collect 55,000 beetles to be distributed throughout southern Saskatchewan as a biocontrol for the invasive plant, leafy spurge.
